As you can imagine, there are some mixed feelings with there only being one month to launch. There is a part of me that is excited to see what happens when I hit that button. There is a part of me that is doubtful that I've done enough to launch, but there's also a part of me that is confident that I've done, or will soon do, all that is needed to be successful. At the end of the day, regardless of what I'm feeling, I am on a mission and failure is not an option.
One of the big things that needs to be done prior to launch is the Kickstarter commercial. I've got a script, I've got locations to film, talented actors to act, and a cinematographer that is going to produce one of the most epic Kickstarter commercials you've seen in a while. I've been constructing costumes for the opening scene (see above), and probably put in a good 6-7 hours into just wardrobe. That just goes to show you, that when you're starting your own company from nothing, you must be a Jack (or Jill) of all trades.
One of the other big tasks before launch is the actual campaign page. I've begun collecting quite a bit of content for the page itself, and have a general idea of how it will all come together and look, but it will be a significant effort that I'll need to focus on, starting in about a week. I've got several content creators that have either delivered videos or written content, which I can use to fill out the campaign page. In the end, it'll all be focused on selling the value and benefits of Top Tale. Having a plan for stretch goals, and defining the retail versus Kickstarter Exclusive Edition games is also something that needs to be finalized.
The last significant effort that I'll touch on, is the pre-campaign marketing. I plan to advertise with a trailer from the campaign video fairly hard in the two weeks leading to launch. My hope is that with a final push, I can go into day one of the campaign with enough people interested in Top Tale, that I'll fund or get most of the way there by day two!
So, with that, I'm going to be very busy over the next month. I'll be fairly stressed out the majority of the time, but that seems to be when I do my best work. When the going gets tough, I buckle down, and push through. It helps to have a very supportive wife, a lot of people I call "friend", and I can't help but think that military training and going to war has helped prepare me for challenges like this. Onward to July 14th!
